Electrons from Memory
Originating from my Bic pen drawing, 'Electrons from Memory,' this installation reveals the hidden dimensions of bioplastic through both material and metaphor. The translucent bioplastic light box serves as both medium and subject, illuminating layered acetate prints that depict electrons as I recall them—memory made visible through artistic interpretation.
The arrangement creates a fascinating visual dialogue: the bioplastic sheet stretched across the wooden frame appears as if placed under scrutiny, while the detailed electron drawings function as microscopic views of its very essence. This recursive relationship—where the material is simultaneously examined and examiner.
The black and white acetate prints, with their organic, flowing forms and cellular-like structures, transform scientific memory into abstract cartography. When backlit, these intricate patterns reveal themselves fully, suggesting how illumination (both literal and metaphorical) changes our perception of the familiar. The wooden display case, glowing from within, elevates these microscopic visualisations to the status of precious specimens—worthy of preservation and contemplation despite the institutional challenges they represent.

The "Microorganism"
After navigating the unexpected complexities of health and safety protocols that temporarily halted my work with food-safe bioplastics, I finally gained access to a microscope—a moment of triumph that deserved commemoration. I named this piece "the Microorganism," an ironic nod to the very concerns that had created so many obstacles.
This playful title transforms bureaucratic frustration into artistic inspiration, making light of the stress while acknowledging the journey. The microscope became not just a tool, but a symbol of perseverance in bringing this bioplastic exploration to life—proof that even the most challenging creative processes can evolve into something meaningful when viewed through the right lens.

The Journey
Building and construction process of the large wheeled frame and the journey of its travels up the hill and down the hill again.

Final Bioplastic Piece
The making process of the final bioplastic sculptural work from cooking, curing, mounting and final product.

Sound of Belonging
Belonging means many things to many people, by asking this question, "What does belonging mean to you?", I was able to capture a portion of what it means to some. For this sound piece I collated all recordings I have made of the sounds that bioplastic makes and the voices of people discussing belonging.
The spoken word heard in the piece is the poem I wrote for this project.
